I am proud to chair “Your Bright Future.” From the moment I heard about Lakehead’s plan to expand into Orillia, I realized the potential for far-reaching economic, social, and environmental benefits. This is truly one of the biggest and best things that has happened in our community.

I am inviting you to become involved. Many of us have benefited from having our businesses in Simcoe County; we have all enjoyed the lifestyle and warm friendships that a small community has to offer.

This is clearly a great time to invest in this forward-thinking initiative. Lakehead University – Orillia Campus is the best way to advance our community’s economy, education, and environment well into the 21st century.

A Message from Dr. Kim Fedderson Dean of Lakehead University – Orillia Campus

Simcoe County has long dreamed of having a comprehensive university to provide undergraduate and graduate university programs to students closer to home, and research expertise to meet the needs of the region.

With the support of the City of Orillia, Lakehead University opened its doors in 2006, with 120 students. Our long-term goal is to establish a university campus with more than one million square feet of academic, cultural, recreational, and residence space serving 5,000 to 7,000 students.

Lakehead University – Orillia Campus will become a nationally recognized centre of expertise in environmental sustainability through its facilities, its practices, and its programs. The graduates of Lakehead University – Orillia Campus will be recognized for leadership, independent critical thinking, and awareness of their social and environmental responsibilities.

We are building for a bright future.
